Little-Known iPhone Tips You Might Not Know About

By November 15, 2012 8 Comments

Earlier this week, Nexxtep partnered with the Valdosta branch of Stifel Nicolaus to conduct an iPhone/iPad workshop for their clients. The event was held at the Turner Center for the Arts. Thank you to Stifel and the Turner Center for putting together a great event!

I wanted to share a few quick tips from the presentation. All of these are new with iOS6.

1. Post to Facebook and Twitter from the Notification Center.

Tap your finger at the top of the screen and drag it down to pull down the notification center. You'll see two options allowing you to post directly to Facebook and Twitter, without having to go into an app!

2. Reply to a phone call with a text message.

Reply Call with Text

When you receive a call, tap the phone icon and swipe up.

Tap "Reply with Message."

You can choose a pre-written message or write your own.

Remind me to call back later

If you choose "Remind Me Later" instead of "Reply with Message," you can choose to receive a notification in an hour or when you leave your current location. Your phone's  GPS services will determine when you leave your location and remind you automatically.

3. Using and Customizing "Do Not Disturb."

The "Do Not Disturb" setting blocks all notifications (including phone calls and text messages) while it's enabled. To turn on "Do Not Disturb," just go  your settings.

If you still want to receive calls from certain people (close family members or contacts on your "Favorites" list, for example) while Do Not Disturb is enabled, you can customize the settings as outlined below.

From here, you can go back one page and change the schedule for Do Not Disturb. That way, you won't have to remember to turn it on before you go to bed every night.

These are just a few of the tips I went over in our iPhone and iPad presentation. Please contact us here if your organization or civic group is interested in hosting an iPhone and iPad workshop.
